Your Union: Accountability
It is fundamental to the democratic nature of the Students' Union that operations are transparent and accessible.
Students can scrutinise officers and hold them to account through a number of ways including officer question time meetings, AGMs, elections, the Policy Review Group, elections and student media.
Full Time Officers also undertake their roles in a way that is open and transparent to the Union's Trustee Board.
Annual meetings, or Student Members’ Meetings, are a key part of YUSU’s calendar. All students are invited to attend. The meetings provide an opportunity for students to review the Union’s annual report and accounts, considering key activities over the past year. It is also a time when students can hold the sabbatical officers to account and hear more about their work and impact over their terms of office. Business will typically include:
- ratifying the minutes of the previous meeting
- a report from Trustees on the Union's key activity
- receiving the Union's accounts for the previous year
- receiving Union affiliations
- open questions to the Trustees.
The Union's bye-laws also set out ways in which members can hold officers accountable within the Union's democratic structures.
