College Varsity

2017 Competition

We look forward to returning to Durham in 2017 and further improving and building on what is already a fantastic event. York's performance this year was fantastic and we hope the teams continue that next year!

2016 Highlights

On 28th March, York hosted Durham for the annual College Varsity Tournament. Since the tournament's introduction in 2014, Durham were undefeated. This year, York were ready as ever to fight back this time on home turf.

With the introduction of the new Equal Opportunities campaign, York showed their support for equality within sport by wearing rainbow laces and rainbow ribbon with Vanbrugh and Derwent using rainbow flights in the Darts Varsity Closing Ceremony. There was an unprecedented amount of support from both players and spectators, and we are extremely proud to support Stonewall in their campaign against homophobia in sport.

Every player representing York did an amazing job, but some really stood out. James College Netball enjoyed a landslide victory against Grey College, winning 69-25. At the same time, over on 22 Acres, both York rugby teams dominated their games against Durham, with well-deserved wins. Finally, Wentworth Volleyball ended with a 4-1 result against St. John's Durham, carrying York to victory and earning us the title of College Varsity Champions 2016.

Winning Varsity this year is a huge achievement, and we want to thank everyone that helped us to make it happen. We would like to thank TeachFirst our sponsors, Rosebery Caterers, Brown & Blond for serving great food throughout the day, Red Bull for keeping the buzz going on 22 Acres, and the Big Band, for providing us with lunchtime entertainment. We finally want to give thanks to all of the supporters that came down on Sunday, it was the most we have seen compared to the last two years!
