The York Student Think Tank is an award winning society dedicated to addressing policy issues that really matter.
In collaboration with high profile policy organisations we will engage with these issues through research, speaker events and discussion groups. We offer our members an unrivalled opportunity to develop skills and to experience the world of policy-making from the inside. At the same time, we provide a non - partisan and welcoming platform for anybody who is completely new to politics. We also welcome anyone who would like to explore their ideas of policy for the first time , without the pressure to align themselves to a particular cause ( a requirement which may come with many other kinds of political societies. )
The York Student Think Tank is a group with two main aims: 1) To undertake research in affiliation with national policy organisations. 2) To enhance the skills of the society members through this research process.
So if you're interested in research and are studying a policy related degree, want to make the world a better place, or simply want to listen and learn from a good policy debate as you explore an interest in politics for the first time, come to our events, and get involved!
The Think Tank runs "policy labs" open to all students - members and non members. These are discussion groups where a topical social or political is presented by a single speaker or groups of speakers, and then debate is opened to the floor in order to form a potential policy recommendation for the government.
For members, there are opportunities to get involved in on campus research projects and consultations, aiming to make policy recommendations for the university. There are also opportunities for members hear outside speakers from professional Think Tanks, win work experience at a Think Tank, and write policy recommendation papers for our annual journal.
Joining student groups will be available again from September 2018.
