DroneSoc is a society at the University of York for people interested in flying and building drones! Everyone is welcome, whether you're a seasoned expert or a complete beginner.
We aim to provide a way for members to fly together, have fun and share our knowledge.
As a society, we run beginner sessions for you to learn to fly, race and build drones. You will have the opportunity to build your own drone or radio control plane, then bring it along to one of our outdoor race sessions.
Our indoor sessions provide new members with a friendly place to learn to fly, but also for people who are into the hobby, a great place to get together and fly.

We organise two types of sessions throughout the year, weekly indoor sessions for beginners and whether dependant outdoor sessions for people who want to get into the world of racing drones. Find when they will be running by checking out any of our social media pages, slack channel or mailing list.
These indoor sessions are for members who are new to flying drones or have their own indoor RC equipment and want somewhere to fly with some fellow enthusiasts.
New members can give it a go with our micro drones in a safe and friendly environment. Once you get to grips with the controls we also have some First Person View (FPV) drones so that you can fly from the perspective of the drone and race around our indoor track.
We will also be providing an opportunity to build your own quadcopter or plane.
If you get hooked on flying in FPV you can come along to one of our outdoor sessions where a group of us meet up and race larger scale race drones.
These sessions also give you an opportunity to fly RC planes or other larger scale models.
