RAG: Here at Goodricke College, there is a huge focus on sustainability, protecting our environment and all things GREEN, therefore our college charity is St Nicks, the green heart of York! St Nicks is a local charity which runs projects, events and services which help to make York more sustainable. It’s all about getting the community outdoors, getting active and doing our bit to save our planet. Having featured on the One Show, St Nick’s Nature Reserve and Environment Centre boasts 24 acres of unique green space in York on the site of a former rubbish tip, and with just under 20 species of butterflies recorded on site, it’s no wonder our students love to volunteer there, on both one-off occasions or on long-term placements. Volunteering includes conservation work, planting wildflowers, and maintaining the grounds and cleaning baths for the safety of wildlife and the benefit of the public.
Goodricke also raises money for St Nicks, with chocolate fountains at Easter and selling roses on Valentines, plus our students attend events with collection buckets and leaflets to raise awareness of our amazing college charity. One of our most exciting opportunities to raise money is at our student-led festival, Good Fest, where we have stalls for tie-dye t-shirts, face painting, glitter and pick and mix sweets in aid of St Nicks!Goodricke JCRC RAG Team are always reaching out to students to gather new ideas with regards to fundraising, and are on hand to help students find volunteering and fundraising opportunities to suit their individual preferences. Sport: Goodricke Sports has a lot to offer both to experienced sportspeople and those who want to try something new. We’re a range of sports including, Football, Hockey, Netball, Darts and more! We are a successful college with 4 sports represented at this year’s college varsity against Durham, which saw our Women's Football team come out on top. Our clubs are part of a fantastic community within the college; from supporting other students talents at the sports awards, to making friends and having a good time on regular socials.
