CHMS is the premiere musical theatre society at York. We are known for producing one of the biggest events on campus each year: a large-scale, high budget musical in the middle of Spring Term. Recent shows have included YUSU's Event of the Year 2014, 'Jesus Christ Superstar', 'The Witches of Eastwick', 'Sweet Charity' (Highly Commended for YUSU's Event of the Year 2016), and most recently, YUSU's Event of the Year 2017, 'Anything Goes'.
Since winning Society of the Year at the 2013 YUSU Awards, our society has grown from strength to strength. We now put on three rights shows a year both on and off Campus which have recently included 'Ordinary Days', 'A Chorus Line' and 'Singin' in the Rain' and are also taking a piece of original writing, Olly Wood's 'A Tale Of Two' up to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival which we hope to make an annual event, following the success of 'Wonderland' in 2015.
Alongside all of this we put on two themed musical showcases and host a growing number of workshops from industry professionals, and if that's not enough, we also hold regular Open Mic Nights both on campus and in York itself, as well as many 'Wicked' socials!
We are also very excited this year to be continuing bi-weekly fitness classes, which will be alternating with our new addition of beginners' Musical Theatre tap classes (all welcome!)
There has never been a better time to be a part of Central Hall Musical Society, whether you're looking to go into theatre as a career, just want to meet a bunch of like minded musical lovers, or enjoy raucous nights out that usually involve a tune or two, join CHMS and be a part of our wonderful society.
We are yet to set a standard meeting time for our committee, but should you wish to raise any issues or ask any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch!
Stay updated on our social media pages for dates of auditions, shows, workshops, socials and classes.
Joining student groups will be available again from September 2018.
