So what did I do this week:
E-mails… SO MANY e-mails. This day was about getting back into the swing of things, catching up on e-mails. Perhaps 300. Not near the 600 Jasmine our societies co-ordinator had to catch up on too.
The Full Time Officers also had a catch up with Matt our Give It A Go Intern to talk about some of the stuff coming up this term. It all looks ace and you can get booklets from the YUSU helpdesk or see the online calendar here.
This was about planning the term and everything else I’ll be getting up to over the next 6 months before I hand the reigns over to someone else.
This list includes but is not limited to:
There’s so much more to be getting on with but that’s a snapshot into what I’m working on this term.
Today was spent working more on our Jailbreak as well as focusing on our new YUSU strategy. Hopefully you know we have a new strategy that will take us to 2020. (I wanted to call it our 2020 vision but apparently that’s too cliché.)
This outlines the concepts we are working towards but more excitingly we have working groups that will publish big projects on exactly what YUSU will do and WHEN we will do it for the next five years. Look out for that.
Again more jailbreak work. As well as a meeting with the University's Alumni Department. This was about how student groups can stay in contact with their alumni and we shall be talking more about that later.
Friday I spent the morning in a meeting with Yorkshire Cancer Research and there will be some exciting things to get involved with with them soon.
We also spent the afternoon talking about the rebranded YUSU awards called the ‘Love York’ Awards. This is because the name of the awards made it seem like it was about the great work YUSU does (which it never was) it’s all about the great work YOU do.
That’s some of the highlights of my week. A lot more went on but that gives you an idea of the things to look out for. Here’s some more things:
Think you could run YUSU? Think you could do my job? I’m unable to run again and so it’s time to hand over the baton to someone else. This is genuinely one of the greatest jobs in the world and whilst it can be hard work at times I wouldn’t change it for a second.
You never get the chance to run for an officer position other than when you’re a student. Other jobs will still be there in a year. This one won’t. If you’re interested in finding out more, e-mail me: firstname.lastname@example.org and we can chat.

One of the biggest and best events is coming to York again. JAILBREAK! You have 30 hours to get as far away as possible without spending a penny. All for charity. It promises to be an amazing experience. You can find out more on the facebook event here:
That’s all from me for this week. I’ll update you with more next week. If you want to know anything or me to put other stuff in this. Please get in touch.
