Welfare Officer

The Welfare Officer is primarily responsible for representing the rights and interests of students regarding health, financial support, housing and safety, and for ensuring that all students have the support and pastoral care required to enjoy their student experience.

Main Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the business of the Liberation and Welfare Assembly and chair meetings of its committee;
  • Represent student views on welfare matters in the University, locally and nationally;
  • Liaise with University welfare services to ensure that provision is consistent, accessible and relevant to the needs of students;
  • Coordinate and support College welfare representatives, providing information, training opportunities and resources to enable them to support the welfare needs of students;
  • Work in partnership with and alongside the Advice and Support Centre (ASC) including through the promotion of its services to students;
  • Be an ex officio member of University committees as set out in Appendix (A) and others as may be required;
  • Support and help to promote the work of Nightline to students;
  • Support the work of the Part-time Officers who make up the Liberation and Welfare Assembly Committee, including offering opportunities for them to collaborate on campaigns and awareness-raising activities.

Manifesto could include ideas for:

  • Priority campaigns on welfare issues
  • Integrating and supporting the work of liberation groups
  • Increasing the accessibility of information, support and advice
