Racial Equality Officer

The Racial Equality Officer is responsible for the representation of black and minority ethnic students within the Union and the University, promoting equality between students of different races and ethnicities.

Main Responsibilities

  • Convene and chair Racial Equality Network, through which issues affecting black and minority ethnic students can be discussed and campaigns or events decided;
  • Coordinate campaigns run by Racial Equality Network around ethnic minority issues, promoting black liberation and anti-racism;
  • Encourage the combating of racism at all levels;
  • Raise awareness of rights of enfranchisement among people of different cultures;
  • Liaise and work closely with the International Students’ Network and other groups in the pursuit of furthering racial equality within the Union and the University.
  • Attend relevant NUS conferences and events;
  • Contribute to Liberation and Welfare Assembly Committee in the interests of black and minority ethnic students.
