LGBT Officer

The LGBT Officer is responsible for representing students who do not define as being both heterosexual and cisgendered, ensuring that the views and needs of these students are taken into account by the Students’ Union and the University and that awareness of LGBT issues is increased.

The individual(s) holding the position of LGBT shall not self-define as being both heterosexual and cisgendered.

Main Responsibilities

  • Convene and chair LGBT Network, through which issues affecting LGBT students can be discussed and campaigns or actions decided;
  • Coordinate campaigns run by LGBT Network for the rights and welfare of LGBT students;
  • Ensure the needs of LGBT students are reflected in the activities of the Students’ Union and that the rights of LGBT students are respected;
  • Work with other Officers and Union staff to ensure the Union is inclusive of LGBT and that positive awareness is promoted.
  • Attend relevant NUS conferences and events.
  • Contribute to the Liberation and Welfare Assembly Committee in the interests of LGBT students.
