Mental Health

Mental health problems are more common than you think: one in four students has a mental health problem during their time at uni. They could affect you, your friends, or anyone you know. Many people suffer in silence, or don’t get help – often because they’re afraid of what other people might think.

Studying at university can be a stressful time; factors such as academic, social or financial pressure and the lack of familiar surroundings can trigger the onset of mental health conditions. Guides on coping with the stress of student life will be given out in Freshers' Week - have a read, they're very useful! Students with existing mental health conditions may also find themselves more severely affected than most by these pressures.

People with mental health problems can’t help what’s happening. With the right support and treatment, most people get better and get on with their lives.
