PRISON PROJECT(SWAP) Students working alongside prisoners

Four times a term a group of students go into Wetherby Young Offenders Unit and lead workshops in different ‘life skill’ areas. These can range from topics such as teamwork and motivation to aspirations and identity. The workshops are great fun and really enjoyed by the boys in Wetherby. A worthwhile and challenging project. Outgoing, confident and up for a laugh – GET INVOLVED! Email me.

" I volunteered at the young offenders institute and it gave me a great insight into the reality of the boys situations, confidence building and bring out "the best" in them can really make a difference" Jenny, SWAP Volunteer

VIVA VOCE formally Ebor tape has been rebranded this new volunteer project in the form of a talking magazine distributed a couple of times a term to the blind and visually impaired. Now being in the form of a CD. This project used to run in the 80's and was really popular, including a soap opera, music, news reviews, interviews with the famous, and assessing accessibility of major towns for the listeners. It went out to over 600 people all over
Europe as well as a few further a field in Canada!

This project is in its very early stages and anyone who is interested in helping take it to a new level - let us know!

"For only enough time it takes to write an article and record it, many blind people across Britain will have some entertainment and information aimed specificially for the visually impaired."
