Union General Meeting (31st Jan 2006)
NUS Extra Policy
Proposed by: Nat Thwaites-McGowan (Services Officer)
Seconded by: Micky Armstrong (Students’ Union President)
This union notes:
1.The NUS project – NUS Extra – which seeks to introduce a pay-for NUS card with additional benefits over the existing free offering.
2. The financial difficulty in which NUS currently finds itself, with a budget deficit, year-on-year, or £600,000.
3. The existing YUSU policy against NUS Extra.
This union further notes:
1. The comments of Andy Grant, NUS Director, on 24th January, that “there is no plan B” and that if NUS Extra fails, NUS will have to “cut services and fail to deliver” to their members.
This union believes:
1. That NUS Extra represents a viable method of sustainability for NUS.
2. That our current policy against the NUS Extra project would make it difficult for us to participate effectively in it.
3. That as many unions as possible should take part in the NUS Extra project to help save our National Union and, hence, our national voice.
This union further believes:
1. That NUS Extra represents a viable method of sustainability for NUS.
2. That our current policy against the NUS Extra project would make it difficult for us to participate effectively in it.
3. That as many unions as possible should take part in the NUS Extra project to help save our National Union and, hence, our national voice.
This union resolves:
1. To revoke all existing policy on NUS Extra.
2. To mandate the President and the Services Officer to take part in the NUS Extra scheme, as soon as possible, and to support it with all available resources.
