Union General Meeting (12th Jun 2008)
Make YUSU Campaign For Longer Library Opening Hours
Proposed by: Tom Langrish
Seconded by: Anne-Marie Canning
This union notes:
(i) The current Library opening hours.
(ii) The recent Library Satisfaction Survey.
(iii) The discussion on this issue at the meeting of Campaigns Committee held on 22 May 2008.
This union believes:
(i) That the Library is one of the most valuable resources to students.
(ii) That the irregularity of current opening hours for the Library is confusing to students.
(iii) That there is a strong desire amongst students for an increase of the current Library opening hours.
(iv) That the current vacation and weekend opening hours are inadequate for students studying for exams or producing assessed work.
(v) That York students have diverse working patterns and the Library opening hours should reflect this.
This union resolves:
(i) To action the President, Academic & Welfare Officer and the Policy & Campaigns Officer(s) to co-ordinate a campaign for an increase in the University Library opening hours.
(ii) To action the Academic & Welfare Officer to conduct a survey on what Library opening hours students want.
(iii) To action the Academic & Welfare Officer and the Services & Finance Officer to investigate the feasibility of extending the YUSU minibus service to accommodate students who would study later if opening hours were extended.
