Time For Change - Moving YUSU Forward

This union notes:

(i) The Organisation Review conducted by Judith Courts which included a series of recommendations for the Union.
(ii) The Governance Review that was undertaken during 2008.
(iii) That YUSU must change its structures to be compliant as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, with the forthcoming Charities Act 2009.
(iv) This constitution does the following:
(a) Merging of the Student Development & Charities Officer and the Societies & Communications Officer to create a Student Activities Officer
(b) The split of Academic and Welfare Officer to create an Academic Affairs and a Welfare Officer
(c) The introduction of a dedicated Trustees Board with both internal and external trustees
(d) The integration of internal affiliates as departments of the Union
(e) Forging closer links with previous ‘external affiliates’ and building ‘continuous affiliate’ relationships
(v) The hard work of all concerned parties to produce the new constitution to move YUSU forward.


This union believes:

(i) That it is a democratic organisation, which believes that its strength derives from the engagement and activism of its membership.
(ii) Its core purpose shall be the pursuit and furtherance of its members’ interests; championing the needs and wellbeing of the University of York students in the educational, social and cultural fields.
(iii) Not only to represent and promote student interests, but also to arrange provision of relevant opportunities and services, ensuring throughout a collective spirit of tolerance and respect.
(iv) This Constitution will benefit and improve the Union and its members experience.


This union resolves:

(i) To pass the proposed constitution
