YUSU Should Take Over Langwith Bar And Open The First Students' Union Bar On Campus

Proposed by: Zach Pepper

Seconded by: Anne-Marie Canning, Joey Ellis, Joanne Carter, Colin Hindson, Matthew Pallas, Aimee Gamble and Matt Burton

This union notes:

(i) The proposal from Commercial Services to close Langwith and Halifax bars.
(ii) The proposal submitted from YUSU to the University to take over the Langwith bar and catering space.

This union believes:

(i) That a Students’ Union run bar will be good for students and improve the Student Experience.
(ii) That a Students’ Union run bar on campus will allow the Students’ Union to gain valuable experience and increase the commercial turnover of the Union before Heslington East developments come online.
(iii) That a Students’ Union run bar on campus may attract more off-campus residents back and re-invigorate the campus night scene

This union resolves:

(i) To mandate the Services and Finance Officer to continue work on the proposal submitted to the University.
(ii) To mandate the Services and Finance Officer to work with all relevant bodies in producing a suitable Business Plan for the venture.
(iii) To mandate the President to lobby for support of the proposal with the University’s Senior Management Team.
