Re-forming Communications Committee

This union notes:

(i) The Communications Policy (as detailed in Section 3 of the Union Code) has repeatedly been flouted over the past few months including fly postering, sticking on windows, using sellotape etc
(ii) That this jeopardises the Union societies relationships with Campus Services
(iii) That communications extends beyond just events posters and to societies, student groups on campus and external organisations.


This union believes:

(i) That communications training and the Media Charter should be made available to all
(ii) That communications should by monitored by a committee structure
(iii) That breaches should be appropriately dealt with


This union resolves:

(i) To re-form a Communications Committee and amend the Constitution as follows::

7.3 Communications Committee

Communications Committee’s role is to:

a) provide a supportive framework assisting the Union, junior or graduate common room committees, societies and sports clubs to communicate with their members
b) provide input into the Union’s communications strategy and carry out an annual image audit
c) to co-ordinate the communications of the Union
d) to provide communications training
e) to explore innovative ways of communicating with the student population
f) to act as a panel for sanctioning breaches of the communications policy


The membership of the committee is as follows:

a) Societies and Communications Officer (Chair)
b) Services and Finance Officer
c) Academic and Welfare Officer
d) Entertainment Officers
e) 3 Ordinary Members
f) Appropriate publicity officers of each Junior or Graduate Common Room Committee with the greatest number of member in each college or their appointed representative

It is recommended that the Marketing Manager and YUSU Designer should be in attendance.
