Union General Meeting (28th Feb 2008)
To Change The EGM Procedure
Proposed by: Matt Burton
Seconded by: Anne-Marie Canning, Joey Ellis, Joanne Carter, Tom Langrish and Aimee Gamble
This union notes:
(i) The Constitution
(ii) That the voting process for UGMs is held online at www.yusu.org.
(iii) That EGMs currently require a minimum of 245 people to vote in person by show of hand.
This union believes:
(i) That the EGM process does not fit with the current UGM process.
(ii) That a vote by show of hands only disenfranchises those students who cannot attend the meeting.
(iii) That YUSU struggles to find a room that can accommodate all voters at short notice for the meeting.
This union resolves:
(i) To revoke Section 2-1.46 to 2-1.50 of the Constitution
(ii) To add to Section 2 of the Constitution:
1.46 - The motion may be discussed once the meeting is opened by the chair, inline with standard UGM procedures. The proposing speech and main opposing speech must be minuted and uploaded to the UGM voting system at www.yusu.org.
1.47 - Voting for the EGM will be online at www.yusu.org for a period of 24 hours.
1.48 - The result will be announced within 12 hours of voting closing.
1.49 - Motions that are passed come into effect as soon as the result is announced.
1.50 - Procedural motions can be proposed by any ordinary member of the meeting at any time.
