A REVISED ETHICAL MERCHANDISE POLICY

Seconded by: Tom Langley, Joey Ellis, Michael Batula, Chris Swann, Adam Wollman, Matt Burton, Tom Langrish and Kate Evans.
This union notes:
(i) The Ethical Merchandise Policy.
(ii) Most public and private bodies (including the University of York) include ethical buying and investment within their corporate responsibility policies.
(iii) The recent problems surrounding the Viking Raid 2.
This union believes:
(i) It is committed to the ethical sourcing of merchandise and products.
(ii) It is important that it has an effective, coherent and operable ethical buying policy.
This union resolves:
(i) To re-affirm its commitment to ethical merchandise, and to the notes, beliefs and overall spirit of the existing Ethical Merchandise Policy.
(ii) To delete the resolutions of the existing Ethical Merchandise Policy.
(iii) To action the Environment and Ethics Officers, in consultation with Environment council and the Services and Finance Officer, to create an Ethical Buying guide, including a list of suitable suppliers, and to maintain this document.
(iv) To action the Union to use this Guide when purchasing merchandise.
