(ii) The article ‘No gear, all the ideas – the state of sport in York’ (Criss Noice, Nouse 23/01/08).
(iii) That the London 2012 sustainability plan aims to increase participation and promote healthy living.
This union believes:
(i) That students at York should have access to fit-for-purpose sports facilities.
(ii) That health and wellbeing is an increasingly important aspect of today’s society.
(iii) That the University’s BUSA standing is not on par with its academic status
(iv) That the quality of sports facilities at university are an important factor for a large number of prospective students when choosing a university.
This union further believes:
(i) That the expansion of the University campus should see investment in new facilities on Heslington East and on the current sports complex on the western side.
This union resolves:
(i) To continue to work to raise the profile of sport at the University of York, through BUSA successes, roses and Varsity competitions and to mandate the AU President to publicise these successes both within the University and the local area.
(ii) To mandate the Athletic Union President to continue to lobby for investment in sport, and to work alongside the Students’ Union President to ensure that sports facilities are invested in, both on the current campus and on Heslington East.
