YORK STUDENTS DESERVE A STUDENT VENUE!

Seconded by: Tom Flynn, Colin Hindson, Joey Ellis, Tom Langrish and Matthew Pallas


This union notes:

(i) The rapid Heslington East expansion which will see the University double in size.
(ii) The absence of a central student venue at the University of York since it was founded in 1963.
(iii) The complaints of many7 students about the negative impact this has upon their student experience at the University of York.


This union believes:

(i) That University of York students should have improved facilities.
(ii) That a central student venue would significantly enhance the student experience of our members.
(iii) That the student venue should be a multifunctional space to serve our diverse population of students.


This union resolves:

(i) To lobby and continue to pressure the University to facilitate a student venue.
(ii) To action the President and Services and Finance Officer to work within the Heslington East committee structure to further the advancement of the student venue.
(iii) To action the President to carry out a wide ranging consultation to ensure the student venue is tailored to our student needs and works with the collegiate system.
(iv) To action the President to carry out a wide ranging consultation to ensure the student venue is tailored to our student needs and works with the collegiate system.
(v) To action the Services and Finance Officer to produce an updated business plan and explore potential income streams to finance the build.
