Union General Meeting (31st Jan 2008)
UNIVERSITY OF YORK STUDENTS SHOULD GRADUATE IN THE MINSTER NOT IN CENTRAL HALL
Proposed by: Dan Coen
Seconded by: Reza Newton, Thomas Bellamy, Liam Yates, Zsofia Kopetka
This union notes:
(i) That University of York students currently graduate in Central Hall.
This union believes:
(i) Students from a prestigious elite university like York should graduate in an equally prestigious and stunning venue such as the Minster.
(ii) Graduation day is the culmination of student life and should be an event to remember, and what better way to do this than to hold the graduation ceremony in one of the most beautiful places in the country – York Minster.
(iii) The vast majority of York students would like to graduate in the Minster.
This union resolves:
(i) To mandate the President and the Services & Finance Officer to lobby the Pro Vice Chancellor for Students, and the University Governors, to change the graduation venue from Central Hall to York Minster.
