Union General Meeting (31st Jan 2008)

WOMEN’S COMMITTEE OPEN TO ALL

Proposed by: Laura Payne

Seconded by: Colin Hindson, Mary Finnegan, Ellie Kuper Thomas

This union notes:

(i) The YUSU Constitution
- Article 6 – Equal Opportunities Policy
- Schedule 6.2 – Committee Meeting Regulations: Attending Committee Meetings
- Schedule 7.11 – Women’s Committee

This union further notes:

(i) That all Union committees are open to all members of the Union except for Women’s Committee.
(ii) That all Union committees should be open, unless in closed session as described in Schedule 6.12.
(iii) That there is provision in the Constitution to exclude non-committee members for closed session.

This union believes:

(i) That all aspects of the Union must be accessible to all members of the Union.
(ii) That the current Constitution excludes some members of the Union from engaging with the activities of Women’s Committee.

This union resolves:

(i) To amend the Union Constitution and replace 6.2 so that it reads as follows: all committee meetings are open to all Union members, a committee may vote to exclude non-committee members, that is for a closed session.
