What we do
We have 59 individual sports clubs and an extensive college sport programme, which is heavily focussed on participation. So if you want to get fit, have fun and make some great friends, read on…
A weekend extravaganza of inter-university sport, York Varsity is held between the University of York and our cross-town local rivals, York St. John.
With last year’s tournament cancelled due to a backlog of BUCS fixtures, the tournament is back this year with a bang! So across the weekend of week 7 (27th and 28th Feb) get behind the "real uni" and come down and cheer on York—and experience some infamous banter.
Highlights will include rowing down on the River Ouse on Saturday, with loads of sport packed into an exciting Sunday programme spread right across campus. Wander down and support the black and gold!
We’ve also got three great events lined up the get you warmed up for the weekend and some serious post-perspiration partying around town.
So whether or not you are playing there’s no excuse not to get involved and have a great time supporting York Sport.

In true Varsity style, there will be DJs from York and York St. John battling it out for control of the decks and over the crowd. This should be a great event to get you into the spirit of the weekend and for a bargain price of £2!
Come along to see performances from clubs who aren’t otherwise competing over the weekend, along with the results from the sporting fixtures being announced. To finish off, the Ashman Leslie Trophy for the overall winner will be presented.
Finally, to round the weekend off, we will be hitting town in style with the Varsity Invasion event. Students from both unis will be descending on the city in a special edition Varsity Invasion t-shirt, visiting a number of bars before ending up in Gallery.
