What we do
We have 59 individual sports clubs and an extensive college sport programme, which is heavily focussed on participation. So if you want to get fit, have fun and make some great friends, read on…
The York Sport Committee is made up of ten elected representatives from the entire student body, and along with invaluable staff support are here to make your sporting experience possible.
Emily is the only full-time sabbatical officer on York Sport. This means she has just graduated, but is sticking round in York for another year to head up York Sport. She gets blamed when things don’t go so well or gets the praise when York’s sportmen and women do the white rose proud and boss Roses!
Kate is in charge of making sure all refereed college matches have officials adjudicating them. Although at times this can be quite a thankless job, it is essential to the smooth running of the college fixtures.
Izzy, along with Rory, will be heading up the organisation of our two big tournaments: Varsity and Roses. Izzy is particularly keen to push for more support in Lancaster over the Roses weekend and will be heavily publicising supporters’ transport.
Dane is primarily involved with the technical side behind any York Sport events. After the Club Salvation fiasco last year, he is excited about the prospect of holding some awesome events this year.
Sam is in charge of the sport volunteer programme and will be working closely with both the Sport Centre and the Careers Department to get sport students in school helping out with sport. He is also keen to help each individual club develop through means of getting new members and retaining old ones through means such as showcase days.
Paul ensures the smooth running of the college sport programme and chairs the weekly College Sport meetings. He also fulfils the role of Vice-President and represents the sporting voice if for some reason or another Emily is unavailable.
For all money matters, Ros is your girl. As the other signatory of the York Sport account, she is always aware of what funds are available. She plays a massive part in the budgeting process and will be holding treasurers’ training at the start of term.
Rory is the other half of the pair of tournament secretaries. Like Izzy, the organisation of Varsity and Roses is a massive part of his year. On top of these they will be beginning preparations for Roses 2011.
As communications officer, Lewis will be chairing the media sub-committee as well as being in charge of any communication issues. He will be writing weekly York Sport newsletters and be heading up the club liaison programme.
Matt spearheads any York Sport Fundraising efforts, be that from writing sponsorship proposals or working with Dane to make events profitable. He is keen to work with the clubs to help them realise how they can make an extra bob or two and will be doing a presentation on fundraising to the club presidents at their training day.
