College Sport

Throughout the year colleges compete in a multitude of sports and one-day tournaments. It doesn’t matter what standard you are; what really counts is having a good time and playing a bit of sport.

In addition to our regular college sports, last year one day competitions in: dodgeball, cross-country, ultimate frisbee, women’s football, futsal, swimming, rugby and lacrosse were added to the calendar.

The culmination of the college sport year is sports day (think grazed knees, the smell of dry grass, sun tan lotion and ice cream) and contributes a heap of points to your college’s yearly total.

All college sport matches go towards crowning the Inter-College Sport Champion. Last year—for the third consecutive time—Halifax was crowned champion but can they do it again? Will Alcuin be able to go one better than runners-up, will another college spring a surprise?

Whether you want to start something new in a relaxed environment, or continue a sport, without committing the necessary time to a club, or just fancy getting involved and meeting new people, College Sport is the thing for you!

Not only is there the Inter-College Cup to play for at the end of the year, but for the fresher who shows the most dedication and commitment to college sport, there is one of York Sport’s most prestigious sporting awards up for grabs: the Justin Taylor Memorial Award.

So why not get involved and do your college proud!!?
