Art Soc

We want to provide opportunities for student artists and art admirers to interact with each other, participate in creating art, and work towards involving art in the campus and larger community. And have fun doing it!

Astronomy

Wherever you come from you may have seen the stars. But what about planets, nebulae, galaxies, shooting stars, clusters, comets, the moons of Jupiter or the rings of Saturn? Interested? Join us, Saturdays, 9pm Goodricke Porters Lodge (then to the campus observatory).

Anime and Manga society

The university's anime and manga hotspot, we gather once a week in Derwent, Sundays at 5PM, to watch the latest and greatest in animated series hailing from the land of Japan. From the psychological drama to giant robot action to comedy with tentacles, there's something for everyone. Be warned, though, our particular brand of humor is not for the faint of heart. Joining as a paying member also grants you access to a manga library of over 200 titles, as well as a membership card that gives you a discount from the university Blackwells bookstore on selected manga. Don't believe in yourself - believe in the anime society that believes in you.

Amnesty International

Amnesty International campaigns for internationally recognized human rights. At York, Amnesty International works with students who have a passion to end injustices and abuses of these rights. Through campaigns and letter writing, our actions show that students, we can make a real difference.

Archaeology Society

The Archaeology Society aims to provide students with the opportunity to visit places of archaeological and historical interest. Alongside this we hold weekly socials involving many activities from film nights to historical pub crawls. We organise an annual trip abroad during the easter vacation and run end of term parties at Kings Manor. We also offer advice for those wanting to gain work experience in archaeological areas. Arch Soc is a fun and approachable society that always welcomes new people, so send us an email and we'll get you involved!

Architecture Society

We are a young and dynamic society that puts a sophisticated discussion of the built environment on the York agenda and brings architecture resolutely back to the core of the arts debate. We were set up to keep discussion and debate of the built environment rife, being an integral part of all our lives. Our events include discussion of architecture of ALL dates and styles and hosting compelling talks from architects, conservationists, lecturers and enthusiasts. We hold trips and visits to sites of architectural brilliance and importance both internationally and closer to home. We also work as a local lobbying body to help shape the architecture of our future, and of course, meet for regular socials!
