What NUS Does for YUSU
YUSU is a relatively small union, so it needs all the help it can get! NUS helps out, making sure YOUR officers can spend more time doing the things that really benefit you. Here are some examples of the support which NUS provide:
- NUS provides, at no extra cost, legal advice and access to legal professionals for YUSU. At the moment, an independent company is planning to take legal action against YUSU and the NUS has already provided invaluable support.
- There is a great deal of behind the scenes work which goes in to running YUSU. We have a small (yet incredibly dedicated & talented) group of full and part time staff members. NUS membership gives YUSU access to over 60 additional staff based regionally & nationally. One thing these NUS staff members do is to research in to the lots of different issues which impact on students and student unions so YUSU's staff and officers don't have to.
- NUS, through the National Student Learning Programme (NSLP), trains your officers and provided them with the skills they need to do their job. The NSLP is recognised by the government as being the best student union training organisation.
- NUS, again through its NSLP, gives YUSU officers the knowledge and resources to pass on skills within the union. The training which the next set of JCRCs will receive is best example of this system.
- All NUS external training courses are run at cost price, which means NUS does not receive a penny in profit. A typical three day residential course costs c. £250. Other organisations charge up to treble that amount.
