Referendum
On the 2nd of May, 2007, YUSU Senate, the principal steering body of the Union passed a motion to action the YUSU President to hold a Referendum as to whether the University of York Students' Union (YUSU) should remain affiliated to the National Union of Students in Week 6, Autumn term 2007.
A Referendum is similar to that of a Union General Meeting (UGM) whereby a question is put to the student population, a debate and campaign enacted and the results of which are binding for the Students' Union.
In the Autumn Term 2007, the YUSU Rules Committee set the question "Should the University of York Students' Union remain affiliated to the National Union of Students".

With a total of 1389 students voting, the motion passed in FAVOUR of remaining affiliated to the National Union of Students.
Votes YES: 1005 (72%)

A special thank you to Anne-Marie Canning, YUSU President, for co-ordinating the Referendum, encouraging speakers to come to the University and chairing the panel debates.
