Hey, I’m Tim and I’m the Student union president. I act as the primary representative of the students’ union to students, the university and external bodies. I sit on the key decision making bodies of the University and union with the aim of keeping students interests on the agenda. I’m also responsible for looking at new ways to interact and engage with all students at the university, so if you have any ideas, get in touch, I’m eager to hear what you have to say.

You’ll see me out and about, involved with societies and sport so stop me for a chat, phone me, email me, or even better, pop into my office at the Student Centre and talk to me about any ideas, or grumbles you have about York.

Elections 2010

Thinking about running? Here’s what I think about the position…

As president you act as the primary representative of the union to students, the university and external bodies. You sit on the key decision making bodies of the University and union with the aim of keeping students interests in a broad sense, on the agenda. This ranges between meetings in the university where new buildings and facilities are signed off and approved, to representing the union at upbeat events like the National Student Radio Awards at the O2.

As chair of the Communications Committee and the primary press contact, you’re also responsible for looking at new ways to interact and communicate with all students at the university as well as acting as the guardian and facilitator of the communication strategy. If you have skills in this area, you’ll fit well in this role. As president it’s also important to get stuck in with activities not in your remit so getting involved with societies and sports as well as more social events within the University and the union are all part of the job.

It’s the best job in York, you meet some of the most talented and creative individuals and work on some of the most challenging but exciting projects both on and off campus, long story short, get involved!
