Living in your college on campus in York University should be a unique experience, and will in most cases be one you thoroughly enjoy! This section lets you know a little about the accommodation itself, and also what to do if there's a problem when you're staying in University.
If you're looking to come to York next year and don't know where to live, I'm afraid there's no short cuts here. All the colleges have their own character, their own price, some are catered and some aren't, some are en suite, some verge on the hotel in the finishings, and a couple tend more towards the prison. I'd strongly advise you having a really good look around all the college accommodation links and check out the prices as well as the JCRC websites - where you live is a much bigger decision than just what the furnishing is like, you're buying into a community!
Inevitably things will go wrong with your accommodation over the course of a year (any building in near constant use by a large volume of people is going to show some signs of wear and tear after some time). Its important that you report this as quickly as possible however, because that's the only way it can be fixed! For now the only system is to report it to a porter, although we're working on a system to make it easier, so as soon as you notice a fault go down, tell the porter about it and make sure it gets entered when you can see it into the porter's book - that way you can demonstrate you've already reported it if nothings done a week later!
If you feel that a fault is not being fixed in adequate time contact us at welfare@yusu.org and we'll get onto it - there's no excuse for the repairs being neglected!
