Student Safety: Basic

Created: 10/12/2009. Updated: 14/12/2009.

THINGS NOT TO FORGET!!

If you ever feel threatened on campus, you can contact the emergency security number: 3333 (Or 01904 43 3333 from your mobile, although its important to note that 9 999 also works from any internal phone.

Its also important to note that most study rooms will have an emergency alarm in them - normally two red buttons on the underside of a plastic box on the wall. If you're by yourself in a computer room late at night its useful to sit by this, security will respond to it quickly.

Finally...if there is an incident on campus its important that you report it to the University afterwards using the regular security enquiries line - 4444.

For crimes in the local area, contact the local police station 0845 60 60 24 7

Emergency services: 999

It will come as no surprise that York is no inner city when it comes to crime! HOWEVER that isn't the same thing as saying that its crime free. York is still a city and, you'll hear this a lot, young people are especially at risk, students even more so. Check out the other sections under "Student Safety" for some information about staying safe in York - and keep an eye out for our regular campaigns!
