Minor Events
Minor events are events taking place in a meetings room etc, where eating or drinking is taking place, where music is being played or where a higher risk activity than a simple meeting is being undertaken.
Minor events are also any organized activity taking place in a campus bar where:
- Bar provision has not been extended
- A lock off (ticketed entry) is not in place
- Door supervision is not required
- Dancing is not taking place
These events are typically Quiz nights, Karaoke nights or the provision of live entertainment (open mic night, acoustic night, comedy night etc).
Minor events are only loosely regulated by the Students’ Union. We have an agreed schedule of Bar Quizzes, Karaoke and Live Music nights, but other than that we will sign off all (safe) bookings that come our way.
To-do List
A Risk Assessment is required for Minor Events in bar spaces (collect a standard assessment from Jill Stead) and may be required for other events. Always let Jill Stead know what activity you are organizing so that we can risk assess it appropriately.
The Booking Protocol
A Minor Event Booking Form must be filled in, signed off by Jeanette at the Students’ Union and then handed to your local Facilities Manager, and must reach the Information Centre at least two weeks prior to the event taking place.
The Responsible Person (RP) named on the form must have been trained by the Students’ Union in running an event. We will no longer sign off forms for untrained individuals.
