The Division Lobby, directed by lutenist Paula Chateauneuf, is an all star collective of early musicians, improvising on 17th century music like the original Italian virtuosi. Before the increasing tyranny of the printed score controlled how musicians played, Baroque musicians freewheeled and improvised, turning fragments of music into dazzling virtuosic performances, in a tradition that lives on today in jazz.
