Off Campus Recycling

Off campus recycling is the responsibility by the local authority, the City of York Council. Most areas of York have some form of kerbside recycling on a fortnightly basis provided either by the Council.

If you have a front garden or driveway, you should have:

Green Box
Blue Bag
Green Bag

for:

  • empty glass bottles and jars
  • food and drink cans
  • empty aerosols
  • plastic bottles

not:

  • broken glass
  • window panes
  • pyrex and cookware
  • light bulbs
  • drinking glasses
  • spectacles
  • tin foil
  • paint cans
  • other metals
  • other types of plastic e.g.. yoghurt cartons, margarine tubs.

 

for:

  • magazines and newspapers
  • junk mail (apart from the envelopes)
  • catalogues and brochures
  • white office paper and shredded paper

not:

  • envelopes (the plastic windows and the self seal gum prevent recycling)
  • cardboard
  • directories and Yellow Pages
  • plastic covers
  • greeting cards and wrapping paper

 

 

for:

  • all types of flattened cardboard packaging
  • cardboard that wont fit into the wallet will be collected if it is flattened and secured with tape or string. Place secured cardboard under your kerbside recycling box to prevent it from being blown away

not:

  • polystyrene and plastic packaging
  • unflattened boxes
  • drinks cartons (Tetrapaks)

 

If you live in a terraced house, you will receive only paper recycling.

If you move into your house and find you don't have any recycling facilities, ring the York Pride Action line on (01904) 551550, who will be able to help you get new bins. You can find further information on the City of York Council website.
