PRESIDENT (sabbatical full time officer and trustee)

  • As President you represent the student perspective on a number of University and national groups with issues ranging from fees and rents to facilities and teaching.
  • You are also responsible for co-ordinating Union campaigns.

SOCIETIES & COMMUNICATIONS (sabbatical full time officer and trustee)
  • Is the primary representative for societies to the University and is responsible for their co-ordination, creation, support and training.
  • Responsible for the communications strategy, promotion of Union activities and oversees the website.
  • Organises YUSU fair and is responsible for co-ordination of freshers’ week publicity and publications.

ACADEMIC & WELFARE (sabbatical full time officer and trustee)
  • Represent students on committeees and working groups to the university.
  • Run welfare campaigns.
  • Help students with academic and welfare issues.

STUDENT DEVELOPMENT & CHARITIES (sabbatical full time officer trustee)
  • Facilitates all volunteering and
  • charity opportunities on campus.
  • Runs Kid's Camp.
  • Supports RAG and Student Action to run and makes it as easy as possible for students to get involved.

AU PRESIDENT (sabbatical full time officer and trustee)
  • The AU President is responsible for all student sport.
  • They liase with numerous bodies ranging from the university, city council, and regarding fixtures, facilities and anything else related to sport. They
  • Also works closely with staff and club committees to ensure the smooth running of its 58 clubs and 2000 members

  • Coordinates Union businesses, services and entertainments.
  • Acts as treasurer of the Union.
  • Organises Freshers’ Week and graduation activities.
  • Organises all Union Elections.

POLICY & CAMPAIGNS (part time officer and trustee)
  • Coordinates priority campaigns (with the President)
  • Liaises with the University, and external bodies.
  • Helps other Officers run campaigns.

ENVIRONMENT & ETHICS (part time officer and trustee)
  • Coordinates the promotion of green issues and concerns.
  • Organises environmental campaigns.

DISABILITY (part time officer and trustee)
  • Coordinates campaigns around physical and general access within the Union.
  • Encourages the combat of discrimination and prejudice.
  • Helps to implement the Disabilities Discrimination Charter.

WOMENS (part time officer and trustee)
  • Coordinates campaigns around women’s issues.
  • Promotes women’s liberation and combats sexism.
  • Chairs Women’s Committee.

LGBT (part time officer and trustee)
  • Provides support and welfare for lesbian, gay and bisexual students.
  • Organises campaigns and awareness activities.
  • Represents LGBT students in the Union and within the University.

ENTS (part time officer and trustee)
  • Coordinates event activity on campus.
  • Help to run YUSU events.
  • Chair Ents Committee.

RACIAL EQUALITY (part time officer and trustee)

  • Represents the interests and issues of all black students.
  • Raises awareness and campaigns against racism and fascism.

TRAINING (part time and trustee)

  • Co-ordinates the Union's traning requirements
  • Offers training to all student groups.

STUDENT ACTION CHAIR (part time officer and non-trustee)

  • Student Action Chair looks after the volunteering activites of the SU.
  • This includes helping colleges put on one off events and promoting the work of the volunteering projects.
  • They chair Student Action Committee which meets once a week and sit on Union Senate.

RAISING AND GIVING PRESIDENT (part time officer and non-trustee)
  • Rag President is responsible for overseeing all areas of RAG, such as events, woodstock, rag week and so on.
  • RAG president chairs committee meetings usually held once a week and also sits on union senate.
  • The role of RAG president is to be an active fundraiser and to make sure that RAG is available to all students at the university.
