Finance Committee

Chaired by the Services and Finance Officer, YUSU Finance Committee must meet at least four times a term.

It isn't as boring as it might first sound! Finance Committee ensures that the Union adheres to it's Accounting code of practise, and works to provide all areas of the Union with funding to enhance the Student Experience during students' time here at York. Without a doubt, Finance Committee will provide its' elected members with transferable skills which can be used in future roles and jobs.

Constitutional Matters:

6.6. Finance Committee

a) ensures that the Union’s finances are properly administered in accordance with the Union’s aims and objectives
b) annually drafts the Union’s budget (to be passed at a GM), allocating funding received via the University block grant and expected trading income
c) reviews and comments upon the Union’s annual and termly management accounts
d) reviews and advises the Union on all financial and business matters and on staff wages (in closed session)
e) may exercise or delegate powers contained in the Finance section of the Union Code
f) has the ability to scrutinise sponsorship issues
g) pass comment on any budget overspends in non-trading areas
h) may advise the Executive Committee and Union Senate on GM passed motions if affected by Ultra Vires law

The Membership of the Finance Committee is as follows:
a) Academic and Welfare Officer
b) Athletic Union President
c) President
d) Services and Finance Officer (Chair)
e) Societies and Communications Officer
f) Student Development and Charities Officer
g) each Treasurer of the Junior or Graduate Common Room Committee with the greatest number of members in each college or their appointed representative
h) 5 Ordinary Members (elected by a cross-campus ballot)
