The college system is a major part of student life at York. Every student is a member of a college and most live there for their first year at York but remain a part of its community throughout their whole time here. Each of the nine colleges has its own distinctive identity, atmosphere, facilities and history. There is also a very healthy college rivalry at York, whether its for the College Cup, the best events or the most money raised for RAG each year.
All undergraduate students are automatically a member of their college and each college also has an elected Junior Common Room Committee (JCRC) or College Student Association (CSA). They are elected with a cross college ballot each year and work hard to make sure that you are having the best university experience possible. This is done in a variety of ways, from lobbying the university for better college facilities, kitting out their common rooms with good quality equipment and furnishings, organising great events throughout the year, organising trips, running bar quizzes and finding out what you want! Running for and serving in a JCRC/CSA position can be one of the most rewarding things you can do at uni’ so look out for elections at the end of every Autumn term.
Every college always has a lot going on throughout the academic year, so be sure to check out their websites and facebook groups!

All of the key points of information that members of a College Committee need to know can be found in the Colleges Resource Hub.
It should be your first point of call for all key documents, information regarding milestones across the year (Freshers, Elections, Spring and Summer Balls, etc.), and guidance on representation and campaigning.
If you have any questions, or have a suggestion for something to go in the Resource Hub, please email Connor Briggs on email@example.com
