"Weekly Info", Summer Week 8: The Last UGM

Posted by Tom Scott, 18/06/2009.

There are many, many "last" things happening over the next couple of weeks: my final meetings of various committees, the end-of-term issues of the campus papers, and - in a couple of hours, as I write this - my last Union General Meeting. Three Environment and Ethics motions and a constitutional amendment seem like a good and - I'd hope - relatively uncontroversial end to a year that's included some rather divisive debates. I never thought I'd be calling an Extraordinary General Meeting in my time in office - let alone one about whether to use campus for Summer Ball.

THIS WEEK

Let's run through what I've been up to this week: university committees included Campus Development Steering Group, where the plans for all the infrastructure on the current campus and Heslington East are thrashed out. The other high-level meeting was Policy and Resources Committee, where - to put it bluntly - the money gets divided up. I joined Charlie Leyland in Student Services Committee, where we argued (pretty convincingly, if I do say so myself) for the survival of the university's Rent Guarantee Scheme for international students among several other things. And in the Union, Rules and Revisions Committee sorted out the UGM motions for tonight as well as co-opting people onto committees.

As well as all that, I've been working on the elections and rent reviews, and helping Charlie with...

SORT YOUR LIFE OUT

...which is happening in Unit 10, next to Your Shop and Costcutter, all next week. There'll be a chillout area, like Keep Your Cool Week, but with workshops and seminars from the university's Academic Support Office, Student Support Office, and Disability Support. It's going to be brilliant - the publicity will start tomorrow.

AND THAT'S IT THIS WEEK

(I'm still waiting on the ruddy shelducks.)
