Some of you knew change was on its way, and that the club landscape of York was about to take a pretty dramatic turn. Last term we faced the closure of Tru and the beginning of a relationship with Club Salvation, which as it turns out was just the start of things.

So here’s a rundown of the official YUSU student nights for the coming academic year.

Tuesday – Salvation stormed onto the YUSU club line-up last term after the loss of Tru and it quickly established itself as the place to be on Tuesdays. It will literally be rising from the flames to keep the party going.

Thursday – Tru is no-more. Tokyo is coming. A total refurb will see a brand new club appear on the York night life scene. Bigger and better than the club we left behind, this one’s one to watch.

Sunday – Vodka Revs. Returning students know that this venue is changing. Vodka Revs has recently taken over the venue adjacent (Orgasmic), and with a new up to 900-capacity venue, the powerhouse of Revolution will no doubt be demanding your attention.

Monday – Fibbers. The long running music venue has been completely re-tooled, making way for a bigger and better Fibbers brought to you by the owners of Tokyo. While our smallest club, it promises a sound system to defy its size.

The above represents a relatively significant change to the club timetable, and it’s something which has been under review since before my time in office. The official clubs represent what should be the best quality and value for money in York. The line-up intends to provide a range of venues and music which York has, in the past, lacked.

For years we’ve heard that people have been getting bored with the club scene in York. Hopefully these changes will go some way to address this, but we need to hear your views! Once you’ve experienced the new nights, let us know what you think!
