University accommodation
Some of you have been contacting me about problems and queries of how to get the University accommodation that you desire.
The last date for preference allocation was this Sunday that’s just gone. If you haven’t applied till now – DO IT ASAP on The University of York’s Accommodation website page . If you apply before the 27th of August, you will be contacted by e-mail within 7 days of your application. You will not be able to choose a college/room type or let length from the drop down choices, all that will be shown is ‘Central Allocation’. You can still indicate your preference of college/room type in ‘Additional Notes’, but, unfortunately, might not get due to the fact that accommodation preferences allocation was on a first come first serve basis.
IF you apply AFTER the 27th of August, you are no longer guaranteed an offer of University accommodation. The University will, however, support you in finding private sector accommodation if no room in University accommodation is available. Please click here to see their webpage for further information on private accommodation.
IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING CANCELLING YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS:
You can cancel if you wish and THEN apply for central accommodation but you must know the following;-
1. You may receive an offer of accom you feel is worse than what you have selected – you can say what you prefer in the additional notes of your application but there is no guarantee that the University will be able to meet your preferences. It is helpful for you to say what you have rejected and why.
2. If student numbers are higher than expected – you may be offered accommodation off campus or temporary accommodation on arrival.
3. If you don’t apply before 27/8/10 – the University does not guarantee to assist you with Uni accom but will support you in finding private sector accommodation.
Please e-mail me at l.borisovaite@yusu.org if you do encounter further problems, otherwise, hope you are enjoying your time before arrival!
