Guides, Handbooks, Camps and Training
Time is flying by and we're already more than halfway through the summer.
And it's been busy, busy, busy.
Amidst the comings and goings at YUSU Towers, we've all been knuckling down to work together on various campaigns, work individually on our own projects and getting through as much as we can before the turbulence of term slows us down.
A lot of my time has been spent preparing for Kids Camp, which kicked off earlier today.
After a few weeks of helping to plan a week of activities ranging from theme parks to boat trips and helping to brief the Camp Manager on the background and ethos of Camp, and a furiously busy day of buying food in previously unheralded quantities, Camp is ready and raring to go. Once again we're the ONLY Union in the country to provide a student led residential Camp - and we provide a massively valuable break for disadvantaged children in the York area.
As well as helping to sort out Kids Camp, I've been training and working on getting things ready for 2010/11 for our societies.
The ratifications are finally completely finished, and Freshers Fair is well on its way to getting sorted, societies should start to check their emails pretty regularly over the next few weeks as things finally come together.
I've provided the content for our first ever Activities Guide to be sent out to Freshers alongside the traditional York Sport Handbook - giving all new students an early glimpse of what our societies, volunteering projects and, of course, RAG have to offer.
I've also started work on a Societies Handbook which will compliment the knowledge base, and hopefully make the logistics of societies such as room bookings, getting publicity out, ultra vires regulations and finances easier to manage and understand.
In terms of training I spent a few days in Loughborough with the NUS, and have heard a lot about the National Demo as well as networking with Activities Officers from across the country (many of whom were full of praise for what we have here, in particular our media and volunteering projects).
We've still got a bit of work to do, but Freshers Week is shaping up to look very exciting indeed, and the year plan for our activities is looking pretty dynamite.
Make the most of the last few weeks of your summer, and if any of you have any questions, requests or plans then give me a shout and I'll see what I can do for you.
