Black & Gold -The Beginning

Posted by Sam Asfahani - Sport President, 28/07/2010.

While mourning the loss of Emily Scott, her handover folder has become like a Bible to me. Trained by the best, I’m hoping that this year will be one to remember for YorkSport. After hours and hours and hours of training sessions to make me a slightly more responsible individual, I’m close to finally being ready to get going on some projects.

Constant progress is being made on the swimming pool which is promising to be a major milestone in sport at York. The BUCS fixtures are out and our teams are itching to get competing. Roses planning has begun for what will be the best tournament York has ever seen, and of course, the return of the James Carter trophy to its home in Yorkshire.

While we say goodbye to last year’s graduates and celebrate the successes of teams such as Women’s Fencing, Pool and Snooker and the Rugby 1XV, the challenge is now set for the year ahead. Win the Ashman Leslie Trophy, win the Carter James Trophy, get College Sport to new levels, get a Swimming Pool and Sport Village, perform in BUCS, increase participation, and create volunteering opportunities. All in a year’s work… I hope!
