Still looking for a housemate?

Posted by Ben Humphrys, 23/06/2010.

After the "housemate hunt" event last Friday I promised to set up a group for people looking for housemates in the upcoming year. Obviously you should meet/chat with people you'd like to move in with before you do, but this should help you meet them! You can find the group on facebook here . If you don't have facebook, don't worry...there's a similar system for all @york.ac.uk users in the University small ads service - I'm encouraging everyone to use both if possible (one if not) so there should be plenty of people out there!

So here's how it works:

If you're a group (2 or more): Post a discussion thread (there's a demo one already) on the board to let people know who you are, what you're looking for and the rest. Try to be flexible, it'll make you more likely to find someone! Check out the wall for individuals who might join your house...

ALSO Make sure you post in the available section of the small ads service and have a look in the wanted section of the small ads service here - the more ways you go about this the better!

If you're an individual: Post on the wall of the group to say that you're looking for a house and post on the discussion threads if you're interested in what's being offered!

ALSO Post on the wanted and check out the available section - once again the more ways you go about this the better!.

There are several additional resources you should look at as well!!

Checklist: When you're looking for houses don't forget to use our checklist , it's got some good tips on what to look for when you're searching around houses and you can pick up a hard copy at the Advice and Support Centre in James college.

3) Information and advice: There's loads of housing advice and information from the University here so check it out, and contact the email address listed if you need any advice!

4) Accommodation list: When you're searching for houses, don't forget the private sector accomodation list: There are still loads of properties around and the list means that you have some guarantee that the house fulfils its legal requirements (on energy performance certificates and gas safety) as well as recourse if something goes wrong: find it here

That's everything! If you've got any queries just email me on b.humphrys@yusu.org and I'll get back to you asap.
