Policy Update: YUSU President

Posted by Tim Ngwena, 17/06/2010.

As it comes to the end of the academic year, it's a good time to reflect on the achievements of the year, and more importantly reflect on the progress of the policies I set out to achieve back in February 2009 when I filled in my nomination form attached at the end of the linked document on this blog post.

Alongside my policy objectives for the year, I've worked alongside 2 sets of part time officers and the current sabbatical team, who have shown passion for their roles and have all helped me deliver on allot more than just my policies

This year, the Strategic plan remains the single most important achievement I've plaid a role in and work has already started to ensure that we deliver on the promises set out in the document. Alongside other officers, we've seen fast results being delivered in forums and meetings with the university but on the same token, we've seen some long term commitments from the university, which bring me onto my final words.

As a sabbatical officer, you have a direct mandate from the membership to keep their interests at heart and it's this very focus that drives the passion of all members of the union and not just officers. Some of the big achievements and changes we make happen behind the scenes and involve changes in process while others such as campaigns on employability and portering happen right on the doorsteps of Heslington Hall. Regardless of the size, department or publicity, officers will always strive to defend the interest of students and you as a member should have the confidence that this is always the underlying drive of an officer, and it will be the underpinning focus of my efforts as I progress into my second year as YUSU President.
