YUSU Volunteering Officer Report
Hi guys, we're Hannah and Grace, your new YUSU Volunteering Officers, and this is just an update to let you know what's been going on with YUSU Volunteering over the past few weeks...
We have been doing a lot of facepainting, at the James College Quad Dash and Bash and at the Carnival, which made some money which is always good! In fact, we are getting so good at facepainting that we will also be doing it in the Courtyard on England World Cup Match days (one on Friday I believe), so come along to those too. We will also be at Woodstock, so you really cannot escape the face painting machines that we have become. Obviously, donations are they way we are earning money through the facepainting, so give generously. We also think its fun.
We've had several college challenges go ahead, with Vanbrugh, James and Langwith being very well attended, and Derwent and Halifax holding theirs this week, which is very exciting as we begin to tally up the results to see who wins the Judi Dench College Volunteering Cup at the YUSU Awards on Saturday!
We also had the YUSU Volunteering play, which this year was Macbeth, yesterday, which went amazingly well, loads of people turned up, over 120 at one point which is cracking. The donation buckets were going round, and we made about £126, although we are still waiting for the exact figures.
We have had a meeting with the Arc Light Centre, which supports homeless people, to set up a partnership with them, where we can provide volunteers for some of their volunteering projects. We need to go over the details of this, but it is an exciting new opportunity.
We are awaiting the results of cooption and hopefully we will have a new committee, so we can start planning Fresher's Week and Autumn Term next year.
And that's about it I think...remember to e-mail us with any ideas/issues!
