Love Without Borders:REVISITED

Posted by LGBT Officers, 08/03/2010.

Last year, YUSU LGBT ran the award-winning campaign Love Without Borders, raising awareness of the diversity of LGBT rights around the world and in particular countries where LGBT people regularly face stigmatization, persecution, prison and even death. In week 9 (8th - 12th March), we're running a mini-campaign to look back over the past 12 months and how LGBT rights have changed around the world, focusing particularly on the recent Ugandan bill that, if successful, will mean that homosexual people in Uganda face the death penalty for a series of "crimes" such as having sexual relations with someone with a disability or for repeated convictions of homosexual acts. Those who know of homosexual activities or harbour homosexuals also fact significant prison sentences.

The week starts on Tuesday night with a talk from David Kato, a Ugandan LGBT activist who will be sharing his experiences in Uganda and his work to fight the proposed anti-homosexuality legislation. And on Friday, we're holding a special talk, Love Without Borders:REVISITED, a detailed exploration of recent changes to LGBT rights around the world delivered by YUSU LGBT Committee and members of the international community. It promises to be startling, humbling and inspiring.

Please come and see what we've got going on over the next week and look out for us at Vanbrugh stalls.
