Disability Officer Report
YUSU Publicity Guidelines
I have put together publicity guidelines for the Union, which can be found here: YUSU Publicity Guidelines I am also putting together a disability awareness campaign aimed at everyone who designs posters, which I intend to launch at the start of next term.
Communications Committee
Even though the motion I submitted to get accessibility incorporated into the roles of the communications committee (didn't reach quoracy) I attended the first meeting of the committee. I have re-submitted the motion for this UGM.
Mental Health Campaign
I have got involved with the mental health campaign, which Ben is leading. Keep an eye out for parts of this campaign, including 'Keep your cool week'.
YUSU Disability Equality Policy
I am currently working on action points in the Union's Disability Equality Policy, which can be found here: YUSU Disability Equality Policy I am also preparing for its review over Easter.
Disability Committee
I have now had 2 disability committee meetings. The last meeting this term is on Monday in week 9 at 6.15pm in LN003.
Transcripts for Video Blogs
I have been exploring the feasibility of providing transcripts to Union videos with Ben. I have submitted a proposition to Union Council (week 10) on this topic.
Disability Forum
The next disability forum will be in week 9. It will be on Thursday 11th March at 4pm in the Advice and Support Centre (in the Student Centre, James College). Come and share your experiences, so we can campaign to make the University and the Union more accessible. Refreshements will be provided. For more info, please email disability@yusu.org.
Disability Socials
I run social gatherings in the Courtyard on Mondays at 6.15pm in even weeks during term time and they have continued throughout this term. The last one will be in week 10. University Meetings
I have continued to represent students with disabilities at university meetings. In the last few weeks I attended the Undergraduate Supervision Review meeting, where I am pushing for all supervisors to have disability awareness training. I shall also be attending the Disability Equality Scheme Working Group meeting and the E-Accessibility Forum at the end of this term.
The University's Disability Equality Scheme
The University has a Disability Equality Scheme which was originally written in 2006 and is reviewed and updated every 3 years: Disability Equality Scheme I was asked to do this for the Disability Equality Scheme Working Group, which I have now submitted a draft for. I have included lots of feedback from students in the review, so thank you if you contributed to this.
