NO MORE EVENT STEWARDS!!
Lewis and I have persisted in our investigation into why University events require student stewards to sit for hours watching a door while people dance at their feet.
Yesterday I learnt that there is no fire safety, insurance or health and safety requirement for stewards at events. The only reason appears to be to ensure security at the event, for which stewards are not trained.
Starting with Central Hall and Jack Lyons (where the largest numbers of stewards are required), an alarm system will be introduced as soon as possible to replace the need for stewards.
For anyone who has stewarded in the past, I hope you are as elated (if slightly peeved..) at this development as I am..
We'll keep Ents Committee and other event organisers updated regarding organising events next term.
