Welcome to November
It's been a long time since I last updated here. I'm hoping to change that - in the next couple of weeks, I'm planning to start writing a weekly update to go out with Daily Info every seven days. It's easy to let time fly by without actually letting people know what you're doing.
So what have I been doing?
Well, to start with, I put together YUSU Fair and, along with Charlie Leyland, Unreel during Welcome Week. I have so, so many people to thank for both of those - things that I thought were impossible got pulled together in hours, and the end results were wonderful.
The Board of Studies Elections, along with the YUSU by-election and committee elections, have been taking up a lot of my time - and if you're thinking of running for anything, get your nomination form in before noon on Friday.
I've been off to an NUS Regional Conference, and I'm leading the delegation that's headed off to the Extraordinary Conference next week in Wolverhampton to sort out the NUS reform proposals. Eight YUSU people in a minibus for three hours each way: I'm taking bets on whether we'll all survive the journey. Seriously, we should put a camera inside the van, there's a TV show waiting to happen.
And of course, I've been taking part in a lot of meetings with the university's administrators. Big news: The Student Centre in Heslington East is back on the university's radar. Well, more than that; it's on their official project tracker now, along with making sure there's proper social space for all the students that'll be over on the new campus. If you're anywhere near that end of campus, take a look over the next couple of weeks: the new Goodricke College buildings will start rising from the mud very soon, and very quickly.
Those are the big projects I've been working on. In the next few weeks, it's time for me to dive into the exciting world of trustee boards and constitutions...
